A Disappointing Cantaloupe

Today has felt more like a sick day than a holiday.

I feel so lucky to have this important day off from work, but it's so easy to get caught up in the excitement of having a three-day weekend and to forget the importance of what this day stands for. Having President Obama's second inauguration ceremony held today was a great reminder of the importance of freedom and now far this country has come. I don't often get political {on my blog or in "real" life}, but something that stuck with me today was a comment made by a news anchor about how wonderful it is to live in a country that can peacefully change leaders every four years. Freedom and democracy are pretty amazing, aren't they?

Unfortunately, my day off was made less enjoyable when I woke up with the most severe cramps I've had in years. I spent most of the day curled up on the couch with a heating pad.

I do feel blessed that I have a thoughtful, sweet husband who took over not only my regular morning activities {walking Casey, making us breakfast, etc.}, but also did all of our laundry {without being asked!} and picked up lunch {Panera for me, Five Guys for him}. This afternoon he took a well-deserved nap on the couch with Casey as I had a soak in a tub filled to the brim with water as hot as I could stand, topped by mountains of lavender-scented bubbles.

I did manage to throw the fixin's for my new favorite chicken tacos in the slow cooker so I'll have lunch ready to bring to work all week, and I cut up some fresh fruits and veggies for snacks. I was disappointed when I tasted the cantaloupe I picked up at the store last week to discover it's hardly even sweet.

Although I may not have been as productive today as I'd hoped to be, I did get some satisfaction by catching up on my Google reader without feeling like I should be doing something else.

If you haven't already, you should enter for a chance to win a $100 gift card to the store of your choice, made possible thanks to the generosity of my beautiful sponsors/ad swappers. I read all of the blogs on my sidebar and I truly hope that this giveaway brings them new readers, because connecting through blogging is kind of awesome.

I'm also gust posting on A Complete Waste of Makeup; I've put together a list of some of my favorite pet subscription boxes and am even able to give away a box from PetsLoveToys.com to one lucky pooch-- go enter if you haven't already!

I never buy melons here...for that exact reason.
Hope you're feeling better tomorrow! (I haven't had pain like that since high school and I'm hoping it never comes back.)

I hate when being disappointed by fruit. You have it in your mind how delicious it's about to be and then disappointment. This happens with plums for me all the time.

I hope you're feeling better.
